Earthy, flavorful and salty. This salt blend will kick up the flavor of eggs and vegetables. Use this blend in place of plain salt, a little goes a long way. Because this blend is loaded with turmeric, black pepper is added to help with absorption for medicinal purposes associated with the active ingredient in turmeric (curcumin). Recently, turmeric has gained the recognition of the scientific community for its potential for lowering cholesterol, reducing blood sugar in diabetics, relieving arthritis, supporting liver function, improving digestion, reducing menstrual cramps, reducing inflammation in the colon, wound healing, fighting cancer (piperine enhances curcumin's effects), preventing and/or slowing Alzheimer's disease. As a matter of fact, a 2009 study by researchers at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center applied piperine (a compound found in black pepper) and curcumin ( a compound found in turmeric) to breast cancer cells in a laboratory dish. The spices, when used in combination, reduced the number of stem cells and did not harm normal breast cells. Its broad medicinal uses are due to its anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antioxidant qualities.
